The QUIC network layer introduces several improvements over previous network layers, including a major change in how sockets are managed. In the ServerNet layer, each process could open its own socket, allowing a single client to accumulate multiple active sockets. This often resulted in sockets being repeatedly opened and closed.
With QUIC, all communication for a client is tunneled through a single UDP‑based socket. As a result, each remote client maintains exactly one socket that remains open for the duration of the connection and does not need to be reopened.
