Tech Tip: Automatic Component Updates in Developer Mode
PRODUCT: 4D | VERSION: 21 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: February 2, 2026
When running an application in developer mode, 4D automatically launches a background process approximately three minutes after startup to check for available component updates. This check is performed even if no manual update request was made by the developer.
If a newer version of a component is detected, 4D displays a notification indicating that an update is available. However, if this notification is overlooked and the database is later restarted while automatic updates are enabled, the new component version will be installed automatically and without any additional confirmation.
To avoid unexpected component upgrades, developers should regularly monitor update notifications and carefully manage automatic update settings, especially in development and testing environments. Disabling automatic updates or controlling when updates are applied helps ensure stability and prevents unintentional changes to component versions.
