Tech Tip: Why can't I see my 4D Server?
PRODUCT: 4D Server | VERSION: 11.6 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: April 16, 2010

When a databse is run on 4D Server, if it uses the default settings, then other 4D applications will be able to see the database name in the Available tab within 4D's remote connection dialog, in most situations.

If a database name is not showing up in the Remote Connection Dialog, then there are a few quick things that you can check to see that may be preventing the name from being see. Here are the items that can prevent a database name from showing up:

  • The server port number was changed from 19813 to any other other port number.

  • The Preference "At Startup Publish Database Name in the Connection Dialog" has been unchecked. This preference is found in the Client-Server -> Publishing page.

  • The database is running on a machine that is not within the local area network.

  • The UDP ports that 4D Server uses to publish the database name have been blocked.
