Tech Tip: Legacy XML user setting affects comment block usability

You may know that to enable the comment block feature in v18 in a database that was migrated from v14 or older, you must toggle on the option for "Save methods as Unicode" in the Compatibility tab of the Database Settings. If your legacy database also has User Settings, there may be a setting in the "settings.4DSettings" XML file (in the Settings folder) that affects the usability of comment blocks in v18 or newer. This is the "store_unicode_tokens" setting, nested inside the "database" element:



If this setting exists in the XML and is set to "false", it will override the "Save methods as Unicode" structure setting, thus disabling the ability to recognize comment blocks. To reverse this, either set it to "true" or remove the setting from the XML file.
