Tech Tip: Error -10517 with Blank Folder Name
PRODUCT: 4D Remote | VERSION: 21 | PLATFORM: Mac & Win
Published On: February 10, 2026
The error -10517 failed to synchronize {} folder can happen frequently when connecting a 4D remote client to a 4D Server. This tech tip explains a solution for the Components folder.

However, there are other folders that might fail to synchronize. Here are 2 other examples:
  • Resources folder: -10517 failed to synchronize Resources folder. Also solved by "Force the update of the local resources" and deleting cache folders, as explained in the previous tech tip.

  • Blank folder: -10517 failed to synchronize folder. In some cases, we might encounter a blank folder in this error. Frequently, this error refers to a folder created by the user and not by default by 4D. The most common example is the folder of a component, a folder inside the resources folder, and so on.

A common solution for error 10517 with a hidden or blank folder name is to rename the folder in question. Since the error does not indicate the name of the folder, it might become difficult to trace the folder causing the issue. Usually, this folder's name contains spaces, special characters, or other symbols. Locating this folder and renaming it usually resolves this error.
